Electrical Service Upgrades and Remodeling

Please visit our Resourses for Residential Customers page.  We have many helpful articles that will educate you; links that could surprise, inspire and entertain you; perhaps even cure your insomnia...but can save you money!

It could be time to upgrade your Electrical Panel and its components!

  • Are you constantly blowing a fuse?
  • Was your home built before 1985?
  • Thinking about an addition to your home?
  • Do you have a home office?
  • Remodeling your kitchen or bath?
  • Was your electrical box manufactured by Federal Pacific? (They've been recalled!)

Whether it's replacing breakers/fuses, adding Ground Fault Circuit Interruptors (GFCIs) or an Electrical Panel replacement, we can help!

Safety First!

"Safety First" is always our main concern at JSR Int'l, and we know nothing is more important to you than you and yours.

Kitchens, bathrooms, home offices, media rooms...they can draw big power.  Did you know that the State of Texas requires that ALL bathroom and kitchen outlets be outfitted with Ground Fault Circuit Interruptors (GFCIs)  and bedrooms and living areas must have Arc Fault Circuit Interruptor protection (AFCIs)?  This is important because the circuit breakers in your Electrical Panel are designed to only trip once the circuit has exceeded the designed amount of ampere (or amps), which is usually 15 or 20 amps.  GFCIs are designed to trip in approx. 1/40 of a second in the event of a ground fault of 0.005 amps. Manufactures of GFCI devices recommend that the GFCI outlets be tested at least once a month to ensure proper functionability.

Your Grounding System is the most important part of your electrical system.  We at JSR Int'l always recommend a ground rod be installed as close to your panel as possible.  Some older homes are grounded through the power company wiring, however, this has proven to be ineffective when trying to protect your home.  During storms, power surges and arc faults, your grounding system is what protects you and your home. If you don't have one, or are unsure, we strongly recommend you have one installed.

Do you have bare bulbs in your closets or garage with less than a 12-inch clearance? In 2008 the State of Texas adopted the NEC's policy on eliminating bare bulbs from residential dwellings due to fire hazard.  Let us replace your unsafe and outdated fixtures with enclosed models.

Replace this fire hazard immediately!

There are 2 main power sources for smoke detectors - hard-wired vs. battery operated. But, PLEASE DON'T GET CONFUSED...both types have batteries. The former is tied into your Eectrical Panel and runs on the batteries when you have a power outage. The latter runs on batteries 24/7.  At JSR, we recommend hard-wired smoke detectors due to their more-consistent reliability. If your home was built after 2004 you should be hard-wired...however...

Not sure of the difference?  Don't know if your home is adequately covered?  Don't take any chances!

PLEASE CALL US, and we will be happy to help you determine your needs!
